Persona:
The Matured Cheese: Sam's life experience, although not it has not been one catastrophe after another, have shaped her morals and values. The exit of her parents caused a great gap to open within her soul, though within time she was able to mature because of it, her mind becoming more open and accepting of the real world. With the guidance of her new family and surroundings, her personality began to change and she has learnt to reflect more on what is right and wrong, what is the right path to take and who should be avoided at all costs. She tends to sit back and think things through before responding or taking action, Samantha has self-control and likes to lend her advice or ear to anyone willing to give and take with her. She believes in sharing, talking things through and hearing everyone out whether your own opinion is for or against. There have been a few people in her life that have guided her down the path to being a mature person and she is quite grateful for that.
Deep = Pensive: A thinker at heart thanks to her mother's ability to show her reasoning. She takes information in and processes it, searching for the right answers instead of diving in head first. Her ability to evaluate situations is something that she values. If she was asked for her hand in marriage she would have to have time to think about it. Her mother has told her many times that she never took the time of day to let her father know her feelings for him straight away; she made him work for it, once she truly fell for him. That kind of acts as a buffer for her, it ensures that she doesn't make any rash decisions. Even the worst decisions can be made in haste, she likes to take everything in, observe and then act.
As Regular As Clockwork: If you were to become big brother, living off the entertainment of someone's day to day doings, you would find that Sam is very habitual. Her routines and ways of living are constant, right down to the types of foods that she eats. She infrequently steps outside her circle of life, that doesn't stop her though from being open to the changes that may come and the affects that other influences in life might have on her and her life. She's very particular about keeping everything in her life in order, but likes to keep an optimistic eye out for something new and exciting that might become one of her regular occurrences. Being consistent does not mean that she doesn't accept change or is not open to the world around her, because she is very aware of its presence. She just likes her things the way they are - something that she can control.
Timid As A Mouse: As you will read about her past, there are certain events in her life that are the roots which explain exactly why she is the way she is. The aftereffect has left her to be someone who doesn't look at the world with the same eye as every other teenager who might think they are the bees-knees or something special. She tends to speak out when she probably should not, though makes her point in an eased fashion, enveloping the receiver with a buffer or shock absorber, if you will. She, like most people, doesn't like to be hurt. Therefore, she's takes the time to think through what she's going to say, but doesn't go over the top and bombard them with her opinion.
The Kind Hearted Dreamer: The world is at her feet and for a seventeen year old Samantha takes it in with awe. She loves to sit and watch the cars passing by, imagining what the lives of everyone around her might be. Her head can float up into the clouds a lot of the time and sometimes she gets a little carried away with her dreams. Nonetheless, she is a very genuine, happy and comfortable person to be around. She does not try hard to get attention, if you don't take her in then she doesn't go out of her way to make herself noticed. And if you take a bite of the apple, you will find that she has the sweetest tasting personality on the inside as her face reflects. Soft by nature and kind to all, Samantha has had tradgedy and happiness come knocking at her door and she accepts all walks of life for what they are and greets them with open arms.
Background:
This is not a story of angst, of absolute family peril beyond all repair or a broken soul. The background of Samantha Leah Floyd is pure and heartfelt; she is the most down-to-earth girl you will ever meet. Born in the small town of Whitestone, Maryland her family had been apart of the average working class. They did not have a lot, only enough to get by on and some, which they could save. Sam’s father was a banker and her mother a florist who both strived for the sake of their loved ones. They were a close three-member family who did not take any moment for granted. Their Sunday family ritual consisted of a picnic in the park followed by a round of Frisbee with their golden retriever, Molly and then a round of ice creams at the parlour. Their lives were bound by love, but blindness of the real world was covering their eyes on that fatal Saturday in October, the evening that lead to misfortune. Samantha Floyd as a young girl had very little wants, near to no accessories for her Barbie collection or an overly elaborate room. The simple act of enjoying a family meal and then engaging in time watching television together was enough to make the small girl realize how lucky she was. Most families did not even eat together anymore these days; everyone always had somewhere else to be.
Her friendships were strong with the neighbouring children, memories of laughing and playing in the piles of autumn leaves consistently come to mind for her, – and again, the simple acts of love and kindness were always around, friendship and honesty always at the top of her list. School was similar; her group of friends always close by when in doubt or sorrow. She blossomed into a smart child, yet was so ignorant and innocent to the fearful dangers of the world. However, most of the time, she felt as though the warmth of her family and friends provided her with an invincible shield, one that would protect her always. This type of solitude she found in the locket her mother had passed onto her, for her eleventh birthday, from her mother before her. It came just before the accident, which took the lives of Anthony and Lydia Thompson. Their twelfth wedding anniversary was the first time since their marriage that they had decided to spoil themselves. Samantha was bunked with her best friend, Kylie, for the night and she was to be picked up the next day at noon. However, the news had reached them before they were even supposed to sit down to dinner. After leaving Samantha, only five minutes later, it happened, nobody is exactly sure what it was or who caused it. No matter their blood, splattered remains were removed from the scene – leaving Sam in hysterics.
The concept of death was new to her, in the sense that this was her first brush and there were no existing family for her to go to, neither on the Thompson or the Rubin (maiden) side. She had not had the chance to be dealt this card yet, to have that hand presented to her by fate. And here it was the loneliest road she had ever walked. At first, the shock was too overwhelming, so everyone assumed. Rather it was the grief that was stealing her innocent soul, the anguish of that loss, the absence that had been replaced by an unfamiliar family. The Nariño’s had been close friends of the family and she was to stay with them for the moment, but nothing about it felt right for Sam. One night before bed, she was going through her memory box, in which she had all her keepsakes and low and behold, it twinkled in the light – the locket from her mother. Samantha deduced that she must have taken it off for a bath, left it and Lydia had found it and placed it within thereafter for safekeeping. From that day forward the locket, adorned with the images of her parents and grandmother, did not leave her neck for any reason. She felt that it gave a connection to them, a way to remember physically all the good instead of continually grieving for the loss of her parents. After three months of grief and then moved to a foster home temporarily, the weight on her shoulders lifted. She still pined for their love and presence in her life, but knew it was unavailable to her.
The locket became her lifeline and slowly she returned with strength and the ambition to make them proud. The fact that her parents were not here physically was a significant blow to the system at first, but she knew they would live on through her, the locket, and her memories. Acceptance became a virtue with her as did being optimistic about life and love. Sam had to find a new place in the world and that came with the Floyd family who had adopted her, as she had no remaining family. They lived in Avondale Heights and were established with a house and children, of their own. It was a big step, one that took time to adjust to, though one Sam knew she had to take. Falling on her face or fighting it could have been the more alluring options for someone in her position, nevertheless the transition was a smooth one, effortless, – and too clean you might say. Therefore, she became a Floyd, Samantha Floyd who would never deny her past or the truth to her adoption.
The Floyd family had turned out to be caring people with a healthy attitude toward life with a little more to offer than her parents ever had. Though that did not change a thing for the young blonde-haired woman, it did not intimidate her. The down to earth attitude of the Thompson’s daughter could never subside and she looked for the more homebound qualities in them that her parents had given her. Life would not always be a picnic with two siblings to account for, they did not always get along, but once a general rhythm had been established they ironed out most of their issues with one another. Patrick was protective of both of Sam and Eve, their younger sister. Eve gave Sam the role of the big sister, which she treasured as she had never had any siblings to look out for before, and they had a lot in common. The middle child syndrome ceased to exist for the most part and it worked for them all. Her first year soon came upon them and as a senior; Patrick was there to guide her through her first year. She made close friends with Zoë Packer & Daniel Houser, both of which remain loyal until now, their current and up-coming junior year. Smart and talented, yet simple and open-minded – Samantha feels as though her life is only just beginning. Her mother-daughter relationship with Annie is quite strong while her desire to explore the world and its options lures her more and more everyday. She knows not where her path in life will go but chooses to live every day as though it could be her last, in memory of what once was.
